New Beginner & Beginner Level 1

(45 minute class) - In a new beginner class, students will work on coordination and establish familiarity with the lively rhythms of the Irish music while learning the fundamentals of foot placement, body alignment and basic steps.  We will concentrate on the soft shoe dances called the Beginner Reel, Light Jigs, and Slip Jigs. No previous dance experience required. Classes run from September to June.


Beginner Level 2

(1 hour class) Advanced beginners typically have danced for at least a year and have mastered the basic soft shoe dances. They could start competing when allowed and ready. They will also be introduced to hard shoe dances,called ‘Treble Jigs’ and ‘Hornpipes’. Classes run from September to June.


Intermediate

(1.5 or 2 hour class) Intermediate dancers if competitive, will likely have all their dances in Novice or some in Prizewinner. Dancers will learn more advanced soft shoe dances, as well as both fast and slow treble jigs and hornpipes. Classes run year-round in Virginia Beach & Williamsburg.


Championship

(2 or 3 hour class) Dancers in the Champ class have all their dances in Preliminary Championship or Open Championship. Dancers focus on more rigorous drills and steps and may be working on towards Oireachtas (regionals), and Nationals or overseas majors. This class is a 2-hour class twice per week with some additional classes leading up to major competitions. Classes run year round in Virginia Beach & Williamsburg.


Adult Level

 

(1 hour class) This class is made for adult level dancers, ages 18+. Whether you are just starting out or danced when you were younger this class for you. It is a great way to work out and be active! We will begin learning the basic soft shoe dances and ceili dances and then progress learning hard shoe. There will be opportunities to perform and compete if so desired as well. No dance experience required.
